Da je že Karl Line to ptico smatral za lepotico, pove podatek, da je njeno latinsko ime sestavil iz besed alcedo in Atthis; slednje je ime mlade lepotice z grškega otoka Lesbos, ljubimke antične grške pesnice Sappho.

It's a photo of a kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) female, with the photo this time taken the way it's supposed to be taken.
This species was first described by Carl Linnaeus, which obviously considered the bird as a real beauty; we can tell that from the bird's binomial name - it derives from the Latin alcedo and Atthis, the latter was the name of a beautiful young woman of Lesbos and favourite of Sappho, an Ancient Greek poet born on the island of Lesbos.
